Jesus' Teaching on Divorce

Mark 10:1-12

Chapter 10
1 And from there, he got up and went into the region of Judea and beyond the Jordan. Crowds gathered around him again, and as usual, he taught them again. 2 And they were questioning him, testing him, to see if it was lawful for a man to divorce his wife. 3 But he answered and said to them, "What did Moses command you?" 4 But they said, "Moses permitted a man to write a certificate of divorce and dismiss her." 5 But Jesus said to them, "For the hardness of your heart he wrote this commandment for you." 6 But from the beginning of creation, he made them male and female. 7 For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, 8 and the two will become one flesh; so that they are no longer two but one flesh. 9 Therefore what God has yoked together, let no one separate. 10 And in the house again, the disciples asked him about this. 11 And he said to them, "Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery against her." 12 And if she, divorcing her husband, marries another, she commits adultery.
